What is the Cyberbullying?? ● Cyberbullying is the use of cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to harass, threaten or intimidate someone. ● It has to be a child on both sides.  If it is an adult, it is not considered cyberbullying and is called cyber-harassment or cyberstalking and is a very serious crime.  Provocative insults Threats Infect the victim’s computer with a virus Racial slurs Gay bashing Jaebum Han 006

  4. Is that bad?? • Teenagers can be serious jerks. • Laws • H.B. 1067, 2008: 24 Pennsylvania Statutes §1303.1‐A; requires school systems to develop policies prohibiting bullying, including through electronic means. Also defines bullying as harassment with electronic means. Jaebum Han 006

What are the effects of Cyberbullying? • Undermining your confidence, self-esteem and sense of security • Affecting your performance and attendance at school • Causing stress and affecting your health • Affecting your professional reputation and career • Marginalising certain groups • Fuelling prejudice in areas such as race, religion and sexuality • Leading to suicidal thoughts • Affecting you for the rest of your life Jaebum Han 006

Prevent Cyberbullying • Refuse to pass along cyberbullying messages • Tell friends to stop cyberbullying • Block communication with cyberbullies • Report cyberbullying to a trusted adults • You can also help prevent cyberbullying by Speaking with other students, as well as teachers and school administrators, to develop rules against cyberbullying • Raising awareness of the cyberbullying problem in your community by holding an assembly and creating fliers to give to younger kids or parents Jaebum Han 006
