Each of the blue words will link to a page covering the topic. The links in the bottom right hand corner of each slide links either to this page, the links page and the assignment page or return to the landform page.

3. Longitude The distance from the prime meridian to either the East or West. Like Latitude, Longitude is often measured in degrees. Utah resides between the longitudinal degrees of 109 degrees West and 114 degrees West. (National Geographic Society, 2011)

4. Latitude The distance from the equator either to the North or South. The distance is measured in degrees. Utah resides between 37 degrees North and 42 degrees North. (National Geographic Society, 2011)

5. Hemisphere When a circle is drawn around the Earth it devides the earth into two equal halves called Hemispheres. There are four Hemispheres, the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western. Utah is located in the Northern and Western Hemispheres. (National Geographic Society, 2011)

6. Climate The long term pattern of weather in an area. There are five climate groups: Tropical, Dry, Mild, Continental, and Polar. (National Geographic Society, 2011)

7. Natural Resources Materials that are found in and on the Earth that are used for many things. Some examples are the trees, rivers, and lakes that are found throughout Utah. There are many other resources found throughout the world.

8. Landforms A feature on Earths surface that is part of the terrain. There are mountains, hills, plateaus, and plains. There are some of each of the listed landforms in Utah. (Geology.com, 2007)

9. Regions An area of land that has common features. The features can either be natural or artificial. Utah is part of the West, Southwest, New Southwest, and the Rocky Mountain Regions. (National Geographic Society, 2011)

10. Mountains Landforms that occur when tectonic plates interact with eachother. There are several types of mountains such as a fold mountain, sierra and mesa. The Rocky Mountains are a mountain range that is in Utah.

11. Plains A broad area of realitivly flat land. There are many different kinds of plains such as costal, flood, steppe, and prairie.

12. Hills A piece of land that is higher than everything else surrounding it. Hills are easier to climb than mountains but still have a summit like mountains.

13. Plateaus A flat, elevated landform that is higher than the surrounding area on at least one side. There are two types of plateaus: Dissected and Volcanic. Dissected plateaus are formed when the Earth crust moves and Volcanic plateaus are formed by layers of lava.

14. Assignment You have three options for your assignment: Select a National Park and using the terms we learned in this powerpoint make a powerpoint describing the park. Select another state and using the terms we learned in this powerpoint to make a powerpoint describing the state. Select a country and use the terms we learned in this powerpoint to make a powerpoint describing the country.
