Coming Together (A.W.) • Leadership team members met each other during sessions at AHEAD • Informal discussions at AHEAD – did I know of any organizations small schools could join? • Previously a member of Career Services consortium • Suggested the creation of a similar consortium focused on Disabilities and the work our offices do Southern California Disabilities Consortium

Description of SCDC (E.H. & A.W.) • Southern California Disability Consortium • Founded in 2010 • Comprised of institutions expanding four counties: Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, San Diego, and San Bernardino • Institutions are primarily small, private liberal arts, and also includes law schools. • Purpose is for professional development, meeting w/professionals from like institutions, and collaboration. • Five leadership team members Southern California Disabilities Consortium

Initial Invitation A few of us met one another for the first time at the AHEAD Conference in Denver this past July and the question was asked as to whether or not there was a group for Disability Services professionals in southern California. To our knowledge there is no such group, and the idea was born to explore the possibility of creating one. This is our invitation to come together and discuss how this idea might become a reality. A webinar is being offered on Thursday, September 30 by Higher Ed Hot Topics regarding ADA Compliance: New Campus Regulations for 2010 & Beyond. Our idea is to meet on the Pepperdine University campus that morning at about 8:30, meet to discuss the idea of a So-Cal Consortium of Disability Support Programs and how this idea might become reality, concluding with the webinar. The webinar begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 12:30, so lunch will be provided during that time – in essence, a “working lunch.” We thought we could conclude the meeting and get people on the road by 1:00 p.m. We realize many of us come from one or two person offices, but we feel there is an opportunity for us to come together every so often, to collaborate with one another, to gain wisdom and ideas and to find solidarity in our common and yet diverse responsibilities on our various campuses. Your time is precious but we believe this group could provide an important source of support – we hope you will join us.
