  2. 2019 Ohio CASA Conference Foster Care Youth and Alumni Panel

  3. Thank you…. … for listening to the voices of youth … for speaking for youth in court … for empowering youth to speak for themselves and have a voice in court

  4. Youth Voice in Court

  5. How much my CASAmeans to me

  6. In what ways did your CASA volunteer advocate for you and help you become who you are today?

  7. What was your biggest fear on the day you entered foster care? What can a CASA volunteer say or do that would make that day easier or less fearful?

  8. Sibling Connections Matter

  9. As your CASA, I want you to trust me but I know there have been adults in your life who have betrayed your trust before. How can I establish trust? Are there things I should and shouldn’t do?

  10. We truly want to connect with the young people we represent in order to accurately hear their voices and understand their wishes. Please describe the type of person you feel comfortable opening up to and trusting that they are there for you…

  11. Importance of Staying in Touch

  12. What are your expectations of your CASA, and what can the system do to help you feel more included in the decisions being made about your life?

  13. What questions should CASAs should ask every young person they represent?

  14. I hope that a youth who I represent would share negative experiences in their foster home or school with me so I can try and do something about it. But, how would you see youth who do not have a CASA doing so?

  15. How can we connect older youth with foster homes willing to go above and beyond in helping these kids become mature, self-sufficient, and confident adults? And how can we let the youth themselves know about available resources?

  16. Ask aboutmy transition plan

  17. You being here today shows courage and an ability to speak out for yourself to help us better understand our job from your point of view. What can I do to give other youth this strength to speak out and make their needs known – to advocate on their own behalf?

  18. Mission: We exist to be the knowledgeable statewide voice that influences policies and practices that impact youth who have or will experience out of home care.

  19. You just have been made governor of Ohio. What changes in child welfare are you going to make?

  20. Our wish list would include… … more foster homes for teens … host homes for young adults … for Scholar House 3 to be replicated throughout the state

  21. … a Foster Care Ombudsman’s Office Our wish list would include… … a CASA for every foster youth … sibling visitation prioritized … normalcy, especially for young people in group homes/residential facilities
