  4. Today our topic is Transitive & Intransitive Verb

Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson the students will be able to practise speaking and listening through defining Transitive and Intransitive verbs practise reading & listening through finding out Transitive and Intransitive verbs practise writing & listening through using the verbs in the blanks or in the sentences correctly.

  6. Now, Verb + what /whom ? = object The farmer is ploughing his fields. Ploughing + what ? = his field / Object So, the verb which has an object or objects is called a Transitive Verb. A parrot is sitting in the branch of a tree. sitting + what ? = no answer / no object And the verb which has no object is called an Intransitive Verb.

  7. Mrs. SiddikaKabir is cooking food. Mother made me a new dress. cooking + what ? = food made for + whom ? = me made + what ? = a new dress The students are in the classroom. The boy is going to school. no answer are + what ? = no answer going + what? =

  8. Pair work: Fill in the blanks with transitive and Intransitive verbs using the following images eats sleeping kicks works running 01. The boy……………………… a football. 02. The cow……………………… grass. 03.   9. Evaluation I’ll ask the SS the following questions: What is a Transitive Verb? What is an Intransitive Verb? How can we find out an object?

  10. Home work Pick out the verbs from the following sentences and say whether they are Transitive or Intransitive verbs. In case of transitive verbs, show their objects: i). The boy showed me a picture. ii). The minister gave the refugees a cheque for tk. 100000. iii). Mr Ahmed is the headmaster of this school. iv). My grandparents live in the village. v). Hasan wrote an essay. vi). Hena reads in class X.
