  2. Our Company Australian Paper, are an Australian owned and operated organisation employing directly and indirectly over 9500 Australians. At Australian Paper, we are proud of our environmental and social performance as we strive to meet the needs of our customers. We also recognise that we can always do better and we are fundamentally committed to continuous improvement.

  4. Manufacturing Recyclable Products Australian Paper’s operations in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania produce more than 980 grades of paper across 11 machines. Products include packaging, printing, copy, security and bag papers. All papers are produced from renewable fibre resources and can be recycled. Unlike all our competitors, we are the only Paper manufacturer who provides Australian recycling facilities and Australian recycled office products.

  5. Sustainable Fibre Sources

  6. Our Aquatic Environment

  7. Using Energy Efficiently We use a variety of power sources – including renewable energy such as hydro-electric and wind energy, as well as power manufactured from our own operations. In 2006 over 60% of our energy needs are from renewable sources. We also seek to minimise the energy we use at our Mills and are proud of our reduction in consumption of fossil fuels by more than 60% over the past 25 years.

  8. Using Energy Efficiently

  9. Independent Auditing All manufacturing processes and performance figures are independently audited to the ISO9002, ISO14001 AS18001 and AS4360 standards. The Audits are completed to international standards by SAI Global and Det Norske Veritas. We choose these particular auditors as they are recognised world leaders in environmental auditing.

  10. Recycling for the Future Australian Paper adheres to the reduce, reuse, recycle principle. We proudly produce the largest range of fine papers with recycled content in the Asia Pacific region. All products have guaranteed whiteness, and reliability. Annually, more than 75,000 tonnes of waste packaging material and papers are recycled by Australian Paper. These recycling efforts save Australian Landfill, imported recycled papers do not.

  11. Recycling for the Future Do Recycled papers cost more? The price differentials are usually quite small, buying in larger quantities and planning ahead further reduces or eliminates price premiums on recycled paper. There are many valid reasons why recycled papers can cost more ie: "We are very efficient at bringing trees to a mill and pulping them; we are not as efficient in collecting wastepaper from small offices, sorting it, and getting it to a mill for de-inking, “ The quality of waste also impacts price, however the more recycling that occurs the cheaper recycled products will become.

  12. Recycling for the Future What are the Benefits in Recycling? • Saves trees, energy, water, and landfill space compared to virgin paper. • Produces less pollution than virgin paper production • Offers environmental savings many times over, since fibres can be recycled repeatedly. • Needs less bleaching than virgin papers; reduces use of toxic chemicals. • Concentrates inks, chemicals and other potential hazards for responsible management, instead of releasing them as do landfilling and incineration. • Incorporates full-cycle production costs, unlike virgin paper which includes no responsibility for its eventual disposal costs

  14. What can Australian’s Do to Assist ? We need to significantly increase our usage of recycled paper so that organisations can investment in recycled plants, collection systems and education. We also need to achieve an economic size in Australia to be competitive – this size is approx 5 times the current rate of recycling. Buying recycled paper sustains local and national markets, whilst stimulating investment for new recycled products and manufacturing processes. “This provides opportunities for creating and retaining jobs, encouraging new enterprises, and increasing the competitiveness of existing manufacturers. “
