  1. MATHEMATICS CORE 1 Patterns in Chance

  2. Daily Starter • Begin Handout

  3. Unit 8 Objectives • Benchmark – 3.1 • Design and conduct a statistical experiment to study a problem.

  4. Lesson 8.2.2-1 Objectives • Design and carry out simulations in order to estimate answers to questions about probability • Use the Law of Large Numbers to understand situations involving chance • Use Tables of random digits to perform simulations and understand some properties of random digits • Use Random numbers to perform simulations in situations that involve continuous variables • Use geometric diagrams to solve probability problems that involve continuous variables

  5. Essential Question • How can you use random digits when designing simulations?

  6. Law of Large Numbers states that as the number of trials increases, the estimated probability tends to get closer to the theoretical probability. Example: Flipping a coin over and over until the coin has been flipped 100,000 times. The results were recorded along the way as illustrated in the table below.

  7. As coin flips increase the total outcome approaches theoretical values

  8.
