  1. 6WAYS  TO PREVENT ASTHMA IN THE NIGHT AMONG SENIORS

  2. KEEP BEDROOM AND HOME CLEAN It's important to keep the home especially the bedroom clean. You should clean your home and the bedroom of your senior loved one frequently to make sure the pollen and other particles do not build up as they are responsible for triggering asthma. It is better to invest in a vacuum cleaner with HEPA filter for trapping all the mites and their waste and get them out of your house.

  3. CLEAN  BEDDING FREQUENTLY Be aware that your aging parents do not sleep in a bed full of dust as it can trigger their asthma and it can be very painful for them. To keep the bedding clean wash it in hot water in regular interval and make sure the temperature of the water is at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit. The hot water will help you to kill all the dust mites of the bedding. Use a hot dryer to dry out the bedding after it is cleaned.

  4. DONT LET THEM SLEEP WITH THEIR PETS Make sure your senior loved ones do not sleep with their pets. The dander of the pets will stick to the bedding, carpeting, and cause trouble to your loved ones. The best practice is to keep the door of the bedroom shut so that you can keep your pet and it's dander out of the bedroom.

  5. USE DUST PROOF MATTRESSES & PILLOW PROTECTOR If you are planning to wash your bedding less frequently than recommended then you can use dust proof mattresses and pillow protectors. Those covers are zippered, tightly woven, and made to keep the dust out of your bedding.

  6. DO INVEST IN A HUMIDIFIER Dry cold air causes more problems to people with severe asthma. Irrespective of where you are living you should invest your money into a humidifier. The humidifier will add moisture to the air in the bedroom during winter. It will keep the dust mites away as an added benefit as the dust mites thrive in low humidity.

  7. KEEP THEIR HEADS UP WHILE ASLEEP Lying flat can trouble the seniors if they have cold or sinus infections. Also, it can cause postnasal drip which can trigger asthma attack during the night. If your seniors have acid reflux then lying flat can cause more acid creep up into their throat and cause problems. Doctors generally advise patients to keep their head slightly elevated to avoid the asthma attacks.
