Presentation Outline • Introduction • Description of proposed pattern • Discussion • Conclusion
Introduction • An analysis pattern for manufacturing chemical products • Useful in designing automated chemical plants • Useful in pilot-plant studies
Chemical Manufacturing Process Can be considered to have three stages • Chemical feed preparation process • Production process • Post-treatment process Patterns representing each of these stages are proposed here.
Chemical Manufacturing Process Diagram There may be one or more reactors By-product recovery By-product Reactor/s Catalyst Chemical feed preparation Raw Materials Product formulation Process conditions are to be monitored Packaging Finished product
Chemical Manufacturing Process - Contd. • Chemical Feed Preparation Process This is the process through which an appropriate feed stock is prepared from the raw materials needed for the synthesis of the chemical product. • Production Process This the process through which the required product is synthesized. • Post-treatment Process These are the processes through which the final product formulation is achieved and the product is made ready for the market.
Chemical Feed Preparation Production Post-treatment Stage 2 Stage 3 Stage 1 Chemical Manufacturing Pattern Chemical Manufacturing Pattern The pattern proposed is, A composite pattern consisting of Chemical feed preparation pattern, Production pattern and Post- treatment pattern
Chemical Feed Preparation Pattern • Intent This pattern describes the process where the raw materials are converted into an appropriate chemical feed for product synthesis in the next stage. • Context An industry that synthesizes chemical products of any type. • Problem A feedstock that meets all the requirements and specifications needs to be prepared from readily available raw materials.
Chemical Feed Preparation Pattern - Contd. • Forces Each chemical feedstock may require a variety of raw materials. The feedstock to the production process needs to meet the specifications defined by the requirements. • Solution • Consequences
