  1. Esophageal Cancer and its preventive measures Esophageal cancer occurs in the cells lining the oesophagus. Cancer is a condition wherein the cells change and form a lump or mass called tumor which begins to grow out of control. Cancer may be malignant or benign. A benign cancer is a tumor which will grow but not spread whereas the malignant tumor spreads to other parts of the body. The esophageal cancer commences in the inner layers of the walls of the oesophagus and grows out of control. It starts from the esophageal wall and spreads to the lymph nodes, damaging the small, bean-shaped organs that ward off infection. Refluxmd will give you insight into how esophageal cancer can cause serious problems if left untreated. It can spread to stomach, lungs, liver, as well as other parts of the body. What are the Types of esophageal cancer? There are two types of esophageal cancer: Adenocarcinoma: Chronic acid reflux problems may increase your risk of developing adenocarcinoma cancer. When you have acid reflux, the acid from your stomach wells up the oesophagus and damages the esophageal tissue. Unlike our stomach, oesophagus does not have a lining that protects it from the acid. This in turn increases the risk of developing adenocarcinoma cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma: This type of esophageal cancer starts in squamous cells that line the oesophagus. You will find this type of cancer in upper and middle portions of the oesophagus. Take a look at the Symptoms of esophageal Cancer Difficulty and pain in swallowing food and even liquid because of the blockage created by the tumor in the esophageal tract  Feeling of Pressure or burning sensation in the chest Frequent bouts of Indigestion or heartburn Pain in throat

  2. Vomiting Weight Loss Coughing Hoarseness in voice Frequent choking on food Pain behind the breastbone Barrett’s oesophagus is another condition which can cause esophageal cancer when it becomes chronic. Barrett’s diseaseis a condition in which the tissue of the food pipe, connecting the mouth and stomach is replaced by the tissues similar to the lining of intestine. At Refluxmd, you can get to know more about Barrett’s oesophagus and how it becomes cancerous in the long run. Barrett’s oesophagus is commonly found in those who suffer from gastresophageal reflux disease (GERD). In GERD, the acid from the stomach comes outside and goes up the oesophagus and damages the esophageal tissues. However, studies have shown that only a small percentage of people develop Barrett’s oesophagus. What are the preventive measures? Abstain from smoking: You must consult the doctor to help you quit smoking. Various medicines are available in the market to quit smoking and the use of tobacco. Quit drinking: Alcohol is a big factor splashing up the acid to the oesophagus from the stomach. Add more and more Eat more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid eating citrus fruits and packaged juices as they trigger acid reflux which may cause esophageal cancer.
