  1. Library & Tech Info Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary August 15, 2011 Donna Moessner, Library Teacher

  2. A.H. L. School Library Media Center & Technology Info Welcome to our new school year! Here is important information that I hope you will read (not in order of importance). I will also put this on Angel (http://angel.columbia.k12.mo.us) in our “AHL Collaboration Group,” in the Library Media Center folder which is under “Content/Info.” Please be sure to log in to Angel (old Nowell username; password is “password” the first log in) and check it often. Our administrators will be posting important information there. Beth Shapiro is our new Library Media Clerk. Beth is a CPS parent, free-lance writer, and is working on her Masters of Library Science.

  4. Computer Questions: Go here for many helpful supports: http://www.columbia.k12.mo.us/iits/ • District Curriculum for all grades and subject areas: can be found on your Angel home screen under “Staff Resources.” Our “AHL Collaboration Group” is where you will find our school’s information/resources/announcements/discussions/etc. Be sure you can get into it. If you can’t please see me. • Voicemail: Look in Angel for instructions for setting up voicemail.

  5. Scheduling: We will schedule the Computer Lab on the Angel Calendar. The Library Media Center calendar will be kept there as well. When your class has Library Media rotation, check-out will be part of the class time. When your class does not have Library Media, teachers need to schedule a check-out time. It needs to be the same “letter day” (A,B,C,D) or if it works, the same day each week. I will talk to each classroom teacher about check-out times. ? ? Rotation = ? Weeks with either the counselor or library teacher/media Cycle = A,B,C,D days (4 days) With 5 or more sections (classes) in each grade, only 4 teachers will get their planning time together. The extra section(s) will have counselor & media specials at a different time.

  7. Rotations 3- 5 K - 2

  8. Digital Videos:Many of you have Discovery Education (formerly United Streaming) Digital Video accounts. Individuals have their own password which will assist with maintaining favorites, etc. Our Code is FC56-A49F for first login, then change to your own login and password. Best to go through CPS Electronic Library for easier access and streaming.

  10. Groupwise Email:Groupwise has not been changed or updated. You can access it at home either through the CPS Portal(like old Nowell login), or webmail.columbia.k12.mo.us. Email may only be retained for one year. It will be deleted after 365 days, so be sure to archive the email you want to keep longer than one year. The amount of space used in the district for email is HUGE!! Please clear your Sent and Trash mail files often. That enables the system to work faster as well. • Saturday Maintenance Window: Every Saturday afternoon from 2 – 5 P.M., IITS performs maintenance to the servers. Please avoid using Webmail, Angel or school computers during this time. Also, please go through your files and delete (or store to another source, i.e. disc or thumb drive) anything that is not needed. IITS currently begins the weekly backup on Friday afternoons and it takes until Monday morning to complete. You can upload files to Angel where you can access them from anywhere you get the Internet.

  11. AUP forms (technology forms): Technically once a CPS elementary student has a signed AUP they don’t have to have a new one until middle school. However, new students to the district must have these. For extra measure, Beth Monson has a new AUP in the registration material for AHL. ALSO new staff to this school (from CPS or not) must fill out a new technology form. You can find it online at the CPS webpage, go to “departments” and then “IITS” and then “department webpage” and then click the “Policies” tab. • Student Logins:Students will login the first time with their student numbers/ID’s for both their username and password. They will then be prompted to make a new password. For 3rd-5th grades, we will use their student ID again, but add the initial of their teacher at the end. For example: ID# 24689 plus teacher’s initial, would be 24689N (for Nowlin). For kindergarten, 1st and 2nd we will use just 12345 for their password.

  12. Electronic Resources (via CPS website or AHL LMC webpage): Please encourage your students to be using these resources instead of searching the internet. The sources are reliable and a safe place for our students to be, and are available from home. I will get a handout for you and your students during the first few weeks of school that gives info and passwords for home access.

  13. Blocked Sites:The district has changed the filtering process to be based on individual login versus machine specific. I have forms to fill out if you want to unblock a certain website. Mr. Boatman must sign and then they are submitted to IITS. • Tech Work Orders:You may still email or phone me with tech problems and I will put in a work order. However you may now also put in tech work orders. I will put the directions on how to do this on Angel. • Space on Server:All faculty and staff have 500 MB under their personal accounts (“H” drive). Elementary students have 25 MB (secondary students have 50 MB). Remember that every summer all computers get “reimaged” and only your “H” drive is saved.

  14. Copy machines/printers: The large copy machine printers require a code number to be entered before you can run copies. New staff members, I will get your codes to you soon. We have two color printers: one in the LMC and one in the office. Please use the one in the library. The color toner is VERY expensive (over $100 for each tube), so use carefully.
