LINKING AN ANCESTRY DNA TEST TO A TREE

Connecting your DNA test to a public genealogy can assist you. Find out how you’re associated with DNA matches. Owners, collaborators, and DNA test managers can link DNA to a tree, although they can only connect one tree at a time. To link an Ancestry DNA test to a tree that’s on a special account, you want to share the DNA test to the account the tree is on or have the tree owner invite you to look at the tree as an editor. Linking a tree 1. From any page on Ancestry, click the DNA tab and choose Your DNA Results Summary. 2. At the highest of your DNA homepage, click the link to the tree. 3. Click the Select menu and choose a tree, or click Start tree at rock bottom. If you’re starting a replacement tree, add one parent to the tree and click on Save. To link the tree you only created, start once again at step 2. 4. Once you’ve selected the tree, you will see one among two things: • Linking automatically and linking manually: We’ll attempt to find you within the tree. Click Yes, if we do, and it’s right. 2. Unlinking the tree or changing the link tree 1. From any page on Ancestry, click the DNA tab and choose Your DNA Results Summary. 2. From your DNA homepage, click Settings within the top-right corner. 3. Within the Tree Link section, click Change. 4. Click the x beside the tree name. If you do not want to link another tree, you’re done. 5. Click the Select menu and choose a tree, or click Start tree at rock bottom. If you’re starting a replacement tree, add one parent to the tree and click on Save. To link the tree you only created, start at step 1 within the Linking a tree section above. 6. Once you’ve selected the tree, you will see one among two things: Linking automatically and Linking manually: We’ll attempt to find you within the tree. If it is not linking automatically, you have to link it manually. Troubleshooting Linking to 2 trees You can link a DNA test with one tree at a time. If you would like identical trees on two accounts, you’ll copy a genealogy from one account to a different one. To link a DNA test to a tree that’s on a special account, share the DNA test to the account the tree is on (not vice versa). Linking to a tree on another account To link your test to a tree on another account, you’ll do one among two things: (1)Share your DNA results with the owner of the tree and have them link the tree. (2) The tree owner shares their tree with you as an editor. Once you’re an editor on their tree, you’ll link your test to the tree. Can’t find a tree If you’re within the account your DNA results are in and your DNA homepage says +Start tree rather than Link to Tree, you do not have a genealogy within the account you’re in. Sign out to the account you are in and log in to another account to transfer your tree from another account then follow the steps in Moving Trees Between Accounts. • Once you’ve selected the tree, you will see one among two things: o Linking automatically: We’ll attempt to find you within the tree. If we do, and it’s right, click Yes; if not, click No to link manually. o Linking manually: If you see a field that says “Please tell us who you’re in your genealogy,” start typing your name, then click thereon when it appears.
