  1. How To Get Rid of Eye Floaters Eye floaters can be exceptionally frustrating, especially if you are new to them and they have just started. They do take some getting used to, but the good news is that you can live with eye floaters for years before having to have any surgical interventions. Before we go into the treatment options and how to get rid of eye floaters, you want to know what they are. Eye floaters are vitreous gel that becomes fibrous and breaks away, this can cause problems with your field of vision, especially when looking at a white light, such as your computer screen, looking into sunlight or trying to read a book.In the event your eye floaters are mild, then there is no treatment needed, though it does take some getting used to living with them. Over time you will learn to ignore them and continue with your life as normal until they begin to get worse. For some people they are too frustrating and they seek urgent treatment from a leading ophthalmologist. The floaters appear as spots or webs that negatively impact your field of vision. They often look like grey or black specks and they move around your field of vision, so they are easily identifiable.

  2. There are numerous factors that impact your risk of getting floaters, including age, any medications you may be taking or having diabetes. Those with diabetic retinopathy, an eye disease resulting from diabetes, are at higher risk of eye floaters. Treatment Options It's important once diagnosed with eye floaters that you learn the treatment options available to you and discuss the options in detail with your ophthalmologist to ensure you make the right decision moving forward. Bear in mind that most eye surgeons will wait until your floaters are negatively impacting your daily life before offering surgical intervention. The first and most common treatment option for eye floaters is a vitrectomy. A vitrectomy is a surgery that removes the vitreous gel from within the eye and replace it with a gas or saline solution. This requires a small incision being made in the eye and the gel is carefully removed. Remember the gel contains the fibrous eye floaters. There is strict after care instructions that must be met and you will not be able to drive until your sight returns to normal. Vitrectomy is offered as a day surgery, which means you can return home to recover in comfort. Some ophthalmologist may offer laser therapy to treat your eye floaters. Laser therapy is used where the lasers break up the floaters to reduce their presence, but they don't remove the floaters and the risk of new floaters forming is possible. The vitrectomy is often the top choice as the vitreous gel with the floaters is removed to reduce the risk of recurrence in the future.

  3. Healthy Eye Management The best preventative measure for eye floats is to follow some healthy eye management tips and advice. Do bear in mind that eye floaters are common and occur with age as the vitreous gel starts to break up, so eve with effective diet management and healthy tips, the risk of getting eye floaters at some point may not be reduced. The first healthy eye management tip is to ensure you have regular eye examinations. Your eyes should be examined once a year or once every two years, depending on your age, eye condition and progressiveness of your eye conditions. If you have diabetes or eye floaters you will require annual check ups to identify how they are progressing and if further measures need to be taken. Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and wear protective eye wear to protect your eyes daily and improve your eye health in the long run.
