INTRODUCTION Everyday we come across a lot of information in the form of facts, numerical figures ,tables ,graphs etc. these information are provided to us by television newspaper internet and other means of communications . These information may relate to cricket batting or bowling averages, profits of companies, temperature of cities ,expenditure on five year plans polling results and many more.

  6. DATA • THIS FACTS OF FIGURES,WHICH ARE NUMERICAL OR OTHERWISE COLLECTED FOR A DEFINITE PURPOSE IS CALLED AS DATA. • DATA IS PLURAL FORM OF THE LATIN WORD DATUM. • DATA IS THE BASIC PART OF STATISTICS.

STATISTICS • Our world is becoming more information oriented and every part of our life utilises this data in form or other so it is very essential for us to know how to extract meaningful information from this data .This method of extracting meaningful information from this data is known as Statistics. • It is derived from the latin word status which means a political state. • It suggests that it is as old as human civillisation.

  8. HISTORY OF STATISTICS 1)The 1st census was heldd in Egypt around 3050 BC .Around 2000 years ago in the regime of CHANDRAGUPTA Maurya we Indians had an efficient system of collecting Administrative statistics . 2)In the regime of AKBAR many administrative surveys were collected Ain-I-Akbari.

FOREIGN EFFORTS THE THEORITICAL DEVELOPMENT OF STATISTICS CAME DURING THE MID 17TH CENTURY .FRANCIS GALTON PIONEERED THE USE OF STATISTICAL METHODS IN THE FIELD OF BIOMETRY. 2)KARL PIEARSON DEVELOPED THE STATISTICAL STUDIES WITH HIS DISCOVERY OF CHI SQUARE TEST AND FOUNDATION OF STATISTICAL LABORATORY IN ENGLAND. 3)SIR RONALD IS KNOWN AS FATHER OF MODERN STATISTICS. DUE TO HIS STUDIES ON APPLYING IT TO VARIOUS FIELDS SUCH AS GENETICS BIOMETRY EDUCATION AGRICULTURE ETC.

  10. CENTRAL TENDENCY MEAN:SUM OF OBSERVATIONS/NO.OF OBSERVATIONS. MEDIAN:-MEDIAN IS THAT VALUE WHICH DIVIDES THE NO. OF OBSERVATIONS. MODE:IT IS THE VALUE OF THE OBSERVATION WHICH OCCURS MOST FREQUENTLY
