Finland is situated in the northern part of Europe • The population of Finland is 5,4 millions • Our official languages are Finnish and Swedish • Finland is the country of thousands lakes • Our homeland is led by two strong women, our president Tarja Halonen and our prime minister Mari Kiviniemi

  3. Lappland

  4. Reindeer • Reindeer live in Lapland. Reindeer have antlers and a warm fur. Taking care of the reindeer is a traditional livelihood to Saami people. Santa Claus Santa Claus lives in Korvatunturi, in Lapland, in Finland. Santa brings presents to children. Santa comes to homes in different ways in different countries. For example Santa arrives to homes on Christmas Eve. Santa flies on his sleigh pulled by the reindeer around the world.

  5. Polar night and Northern lights Polar night is an annual time when sun doesn’t rise above the horizon. This happens in Lapland. Northern lights area colourful light phenomenon. The lights dance in the sky. Tthe best place to see the northern lights is in Lapland in the middle of the winter.

  6. Autumn leaf colour • In the autumn leaf colours start changing after the first frost nights. This time of the year is a very colourful. Colours are for example red, orange and yellow.

  8. Summer cottage • Summer cottages are for recreation during the freetime. Summer cottages are usually next to lake or river. Cottages are usually built from wood. Finnish lake district There are thousands of lakes in the Finnish Lakeland. The lake district of Finland is mostly covered in lakes. Finland is also called the land of thousands lakes.

  9. SAUNA STOVE BIRCH WHISK USED IN SAUNA Sauna Going to sauna is a Finnish habit. People sweat and wash themselves in sauna. Sauna is often a little house and there is a sauna heater that heats up the sauna. We throw water in the heater. Many summer cottages have a sauna.

  10. The night of the midnight sun In the midsummer the sun doesn’t go down at all. We call that the night of the midnight sun. We celebrate Juhannus by burning piles of wood, bonfires.

  12. Plain flat lands Ostrobothnia is known for plain flat lands.

  14. Archipelago Sea The Archipelago Sea is in the Baltic Sea. There are 40 000 islands and wrock islands. The Archipelago Sea is the largest archipelago in Europe A village in the archipelago In the Archipelago Sea there are many islands. In each island there are many villages. The livelihood of the villagers is fishing. Many of the villagers have their own boat.

  15. White tailed eagle White tailed eagle is the biggest bird of prey in Finland. The WWF set the eagle endangered. Their length is 85-95 cm and weight is 3-6 kg. The female is usually bigger than a male.

  17. Helsinki Helsinki is the capital and the largest city in Finland. Helsinki is also Finland´s major political, financial and cultural centre. It is located on the shore of Gulf of Finland. The population in Helsinki is approximately 600 000.

  18. The Senate Square is one the main tourist attractions in Helsinki. • The Senate Square presents Johan Ehrenström´s and Carl Ludvig Engel´s architecture from the 19th century. The Senate Square Helsinki Senate Square is in the heart of the city. It is a historical square surrounded by important buildings such as the Helsinki Cathedral and the main University building. In the middle of the square there is the statue of Alexander II.

  19. The Market Square The Market Square is one of the most famous markets in Helsinki. It is located near the centre of Helsinki, at the eastern end of Esplanadi and bordering the Baltic Sea to the south and Katajanokka to the east. Nearby there are the Presidential Palace, the City Hall of Helsinki and Uspenski Cathedral.

  21. Moominworld is a theme park for children and families based on the books of beloved Finnish artist and storyteller, Tove Jansson. Moominworld is located on the southwest coast of Finland on a small island facing Naantali´s Old Town. It´s already 65 years since Tove Jansson created her first Moomin character!

  22. Marimekko corporation is a leading Finnish textile and clothing design company that was established in 1951. The company designs clothing, interior decoration textiles, bags and accessories under the Marimekko brand.
