  2. AcademicHours • Academichour = 45 minutes • You’ll be paidbytheacademichour.

Regular AdultProgram • A regular coursegenerallylasts 1 quarter ( 2.5 months) • Itencompasses 18 or 24 sessions and 60 academichours • Wepaybytheacademichour. • Example: • Sayyou’repaid 1 peso anhourand teach: • From 7 to 8:30 • 2 academichours • Youearn $2 • The 60 hoursforonecourse are splitinto2,5 months(courselegth). • Thisisn’tanevendivision: • 1st month : 19 Hours • 2nd month: 20 Hours • 3rd month: 21 hours • They do notstrictlycorrelatetothehoursyoumightteach at a givenmonth, butbytheend of thequartertheywilladd up to 60 hours.

Times and Schedule • Morning and Eveningclasses • Monday– Wednesday – Friday ( 24 sessions ) • Tuesday – Thursday ( 18 sessions) • 2 Finals ( written and oral ) • Effectiveteaching time : 22 and 16 ( thelast 2 sessions are onlytogivethefinals <orlal and writtenwhich are alreadymadeforyou>). • Book units : usually 6 per course • Thismeansthat • For a 24 sessioncourseittakes 3.6 sessionstoteach 1 bookunit. ( If I starton a Monday, halfwaythrough Friday I should be movingontothenextunittokeepthepacing) • Foran 18 sessioncourseittakes 2,6 sessionstoteach 1 bookunit ( If I starton a Tuesday I should be movingontothenextunitafterthe break ) • Be flexible.

  6. Class CD Rom • Class Audio forStudentbook • Class Audio forWorkbook • Extra resources ( pdf files ) withcommunicativeactivities • ( ifyouneedcopies of pdfsprintedout, sendthemtothe Sec. At least 24 beforeyourclass ) • Videos ( no activitiestogowiththeseyouwillhavetocreatethem ) • Test Book ( pdf). Heads up: the test bookisfromtheserie’sfirstedition, whith 7 unitseachbook so itdoesn’tgenerally match thecontents of yourcurrentbookwith 6 units, materialscould be either in oneorotherunit. Thereforeyouhaveto “hand pick” yourexercises. • Be suretochoose Test exercisesthat are meaningfulfortheunitsyou’reassessing.

  7. Assessment • At least 2 written and 2 oral quizzes. • Thelastunit in thebookisdifficulttoassessbecauseitisusuallyclosetotheFinals. • Use thepdftestbookonyour cd romto pick theessentialtopicstoassess • Writtenassessmentscannot be longerthan 35-40 minutes. Youdon’tdismissstudentsafterthequizis done theypaid 60 hours and theygetthem. • Oral quizzesshould be producedbyyou. Onegoodsuggestionistocheck up yourResource “pdfs” onyour cd. Theycontain a lot of interactiveexercises.

On Oral Assessment • Studentsusuallycleartheroom and enter in pairstotaketheir oral quiz. • Oral assessmentshould be createdkeeping in mind a 3 stageprocess. • StudentTeacherinteractionwarm up ( youaskthestudentssomequestions in ordertoestablish a relaxedatmosphere – be cordial ) • Studentspeaksfor 1 minute about a topic. • Bothstudentsinteract ( usingcuecardsyou can suppply) • Grade studentsaccordingtorubric ( asktheSec) • Forpair and individual speaking, try nottostare at thestudents, keepyoureyesonyour score sheetortake notes, somestudentscouldfeelintimidatedbyyourstaring.

  9. Be creative • Motivateyourstudentsbeingan active teacher • Don’tjustsitbehind a deskand pressplay. Thiscreates a schoollikeenvironment. • Higherlevelstudents can createPowerpointPresentations, readbooks, debate currenttopics. • Lowerlevelstudents can role playdifferentdialogs, givethemthefirstfewlinesand theyshould complete theconversation, use memorygamesforvocabulary, tic tac toe, hangman etc…Theselevelsrequirethatyou use theResourcesonthe cd a lot. • Look modern! Use a couple of powerpointpresentations.

Seating • Studentsshouldusuallysit in a semicircleifpossible • One of theseats at theend of thecircleshould be empty • A teachersitting as part of thesemicirclecreates a familiar environment . • Theemptychaircould be usedforpairwork. Once studentspractice a givendialogwithonepartner, thestudentsitting at oneend of thesemicirclesits at theotherend and everyoneswitchespartner.

  11. Online Platform. www.engrade .com For Teachers And Students You’ll be paid extra 2,66 hoursforkeepingupdate records of studentattendance and grades ontheplatform. Thisalsocoversthe time youmightspendansweringyourstudents’ messages ( ifany at all ). Optionallyyoucouldcreate online quizzestogivetoyourstudents. The 2,66 can stillcoverthat time.

Online Platform • There are detailedtutorialsonhowto use theplatform • http://wikis.engrade.com/engradeforichna • Shouldyourequirefurtherinformationorifyou’retheinquisitive/investigativekindthere’salwaysthehelp files of theplatformitself. • The online platformisregularlycheckedbythecoordinator. • Attendance and grades should be updated at all times tokeepyour 2,66 bonushours. • Separately, yourpaper roll bookshouldalways be updated and available in yourcubbyhole.

  13. Paycheck • Finally, Ifyou’reteaching a regular programyou’ll be paid in 3 installments ( as statedbefore ) Forwhateveryouteachthismonth, you’ll be paidonthe 5th of thenextone. Onlyif 5th is a weekday, otherwise, you’ll be paidthenextMondayafterthe 5th. Collectyourcheck at theAccountingDept. ( Accountant: Rodrigo Saavedra ) Be therearound 12:30-1 pm onthe 5th. Therewill be no checkifyouhaven’tfiledthe “Boleta” foranygivenmonth. Ittakes 1 weektowritethecheck once your “boleta” isrecorded. So be punctual.
