The Age of Voice Assistants • Beginning with Siri in 2011, the recent eight years have seen the rise of other highly sophisticated voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and also Microsoft Cortana. • All of them have their own specialty and limitations. • In this PowerPoint slide, we will take a look at the difference between what Apple’s Siri and Google’s Google Assistant can offer.

  5. Search Result • Focuses on finding the best sources. • Can only say: “Here’s what I found” and display the webpage. • Focuses on Bringing the best information. • Can speak the information in full detail. • It has the advantage of owned by largest search engine in the world.

  6. Finding Places Nearby: Restaurants for example. • Can only look at a search result and bring a list of restaurants. • List All the restaurants nearby based on region and specialty. • Book Tables. • List the menu. • Give directions via map. • Order online via home delivery apps.

  7. Maps and Directions • Can provide detailed route and estimated time only in certain countires. • In India, Siri can’t do what Google Assistant can do. • Can provide detailed route. • Traffic status • Estimated time • Alternative route

  8. “How To” Guides: Recipes for example • Can find the best search result for the dish you want. • Can bring video tutorials from YouTube.

  9. Asking questions in sequence • Gets confused when asked questions on the same topic. • You have to mention what you’re asking about every time. • If you ask a series of questions about a particular person or place or thing, GA knows you’re asking about the same topic. • It will keep speaking the answers it can find.

Conclusion • Both Siri and Google Assistant have made our lives extremely easier by taking commands with only our voice. • As we saw in the previous slides, Google Assistant is more capable than Siri. • Google Assistant focuses on speaking out loud the best information, while Siri can only find the best sources. • However, Siri is also becoming more powerful with every update and will continue to be a prominent figure in the world of Voice Assistants.
