  4. Introduction In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a fertility treatment that involves combining eggs and sperm outside the body to create embryos, which are then implanted into the uterus. There are several variations and types of IVF procedures to address different fertility issues and patient needs. Here are some of the common types of IVF: Conventional IVF In traditional or conventional IVF, mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries of the female partner and are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory dish. After fertilization, the resulting embryos are monitored for their development and quality before one or more are selected for transfer into the uterus. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) ICSI is a variation of IVF in which a single sperm is directly injected into an egg to facilitate fertilization. This is typically used when male infertility treatmentsissues, such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility, are a concern.

  5. IVF with Donor Eggs In cases where the female partner has difficulty producing healthy eggs, donor eggs from a younger, healthy donor are used for fertilization. The recipient woman carries the pregnancy and gives birth. IVF with Donor Sperm When male infertility is a significant issue, donor sperm can be used for fertilization. This is an option for couples in which the male partner has a low sperm count, genetic disorders, or other issues that affect sperm quality. Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) Although not technically a form of IVF, IUI involves placing sperm directly into the uterus to increase the chances of fertilization. It is sometimes used in conjunction with IVF or as a less invasive fertility treatment option.
