  1. MS Dhoni came in because I didn’t grab my chances, says Parthiv Patel MS Dhoni’s greatness is not unknown to anybody. Ever since he has made his debut for India, he has changed the entire scenario of Indian cricket. However, another wicketkeeper-batsman had made his debut around that time and many believe because of MS Dhoni, he couldn’t stay for long. And, he is none other than Parthiv Patel. According to him, he came I the circuit before Dhoni but he failed to grab the chances. It is also noteworthy that, Parthiv Patel had made his Test debut in 2002 in England when he was 17 years old. But, he could feature in only 25 Tests, 38 ODIs and two T20Is for the country. And, in Dhoni’s presence, he hardly got the chance in the playing eleven as well. While speaking on The Curtly Karishma Show, the former keeper-batsman has also stated that he couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities he had got at that time. “Honestly speaking, I don’t look at it that way (whether he was unlucky). I had the first crack at the Indian team, before Dhoni,” Parthiv Patel said. “I was dropped because my performances were not up to the mark in international cricket. Then MS Dhoni came in. I can’t say that I was unlucky because I did not get to play more. I had already played 19 Test matches before getting dropped. I also cannot say that I did not get enough opportunities. 19 Test matches is a lot.”

Coming from a place where I was, I feel absolute privilege at where I am. 25 Test matches, I would have taken that with both hands in 2002, when I made my Test debut,” he added.
