    2. 2 About Hanban Hanban is the executive body of the Chinese Language Council International, a non-governmental and non-profit organization affiliated with the Ministry of Education of China. Hanban was the initiator of the Chinese Bridge for American Schools Trip.

    3. 3 Mission of Hanban Hanban is committed to making Chinese language and culture teaching resources and services available to the world, to meeting the demands of overseas Chinese learners to the utmost, to contributing to the formation of a world of cultural diversity and harmony.

    5. 5 Chinese Language and Culture Initiative In April 2006, the Chinese Language and Culture Initiative was established to support the increasing demand for Chinese programs in schools. The Initiative includes: Chinese Guest Teacher Program Hanban will provide qualified teachers from China for a period of up to three years to schools participating in this program for a minimal cost. Schools will enjoy a native speaker instructor and cultural expert to jumpstart or expand their Chinese program.

    6. 6 Chinese Language and Culture Initiative Chinese Language and Culture Presentations Hanban organizes several Chinese language and culture presentation tours to various U.S. schools that intend to offer Chinese programs. The program offers students and others an introduction to Chinese language and culture. The “Chinese Bridge for American Schools Trip” School leaders are invited to visit China to learn more about the Chinese language, culture, and education system, and to establish ties with schools in China.

    7. 7 Chinese Language and Culture Initiative Chinese Culture and Summer Institutes AP Chinese Summer Institutes for Teachers Hanban offers summer institutes annually at Chinese universities for American teachers of Chinese. The “Chinese Bridge for American Schools” Summer Camp for Students Hanban offers a new program to American high school students who want the opportunity to study Chinese language and culture intensively during the summer in China. Scholarships will be available for eligible students.
