  1. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. Romans 8:29, ESV Being Like Him Surrender

  2. Do we look at things from a benefits view? From an outside/in standpoint versus Seeing from the inside/out? • “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean. (Matthew 23:25-26 ESV)

  3. 3 BASIC NEEDS • Physical • Health, hurts, etc • Relational • Friends, siblings, parents, children, brethren, etc. • Spiritual • Unrelated, except in imagination to the other two

  4. What’s the Problem? We need to consider God/spiritual things first! • Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. (James 4:13-16 ESV)

  5. What’s the Problem? We need to consider God/spiritual things first! • I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 ESV) We are not called to make a sacrifice from time to time, we ARE the sacrifice. Jesus is an example, Joseph was an example

  6. Un-surrendered life leads to surprising sin • Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3-5 ESV) • Job 7:17-19, goes from integrity, wisdom, & blameless to frustration and demanding God • Job 13:20-22, lays out the plan for God to treat him right • Job 35:9-14, Elihu says, “you must wait on Him”

  7. The key to Surrendering One’s Life? • So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10 ESV)
