Course Objectives • To learn about advantages of microwaves and applications in various sectors • To know in detail about microwave generators along with their working principles • To have a knowledge of various microwave components and networks and their analysis methods. • To have an idea about MMICs and how planar transmission lines came into existence • To learn about various measurement methods in microwave frequency range.

Course Outline • Introduction • Advantages, frequency ranges • Applications • Microwave generators • Low power Oscillators: Reflex Klystron, Gunn diode, IMPATT and TRAPATT diode • High power Oscillators: TWT amplifiers, Magnetron Oscillator • Microwave circuits and Components • Scattering Matrix • E plane, H plane Tee junctions, Hybrid and Magic Tee Junctions • Attenuators, Directional Couplers, Cavity Resonators, Ferrite Devices: Isolators, Circulators • MMIC Component materials, Growth, Fabrication Techniques • Measurement of VSWR, Frequency, Guided wavelength, Coupling and Directivity measurements
