  5. Overview of ITL services

  6. Consultancy Many companies can offer their clients test facilities for a range of compliance and R&D purposes. They can also offer technically competent, experienced peopleto conduct or assist with their testing program Our mission at ITL is to go further. Whilst we are situated in New Zealand, our focus is most definitely global. Not only do we want our clients to have access to state of the art testing laboratories and knowledgeable people, we also want to become your company’s 100% reliable, trusted business partner, providing on-time solutions in a flexible and customer-friendly way. We aim to provide the very highest technical standards and knowledge, which we want to use to help your company enjoy more value and become more profitable

  7. ELECTROMAGNETIC compatibility Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing is an essential compliance requirement in most countries of the world, which by and  large, utilise similar standards. • At ITL we combine years of EMC testing and development experience in several industries with state-of the art test equipment. Along with our independent status, we can offer you a professional and dependable EMC testing service. • As we always say, you need to be able to depend on accurate data from reliable equipment and experienced testers, to ensure your products don’t run into trouble after manufacture. • Our main aim is to help you gain EMC compliance as quickly as possible, so you can enter your target marketplace.

  8. Environmental To help your product to stand up to life in harsh environments, ITL has a full suite of facilities to carry out comprehensive ingress protection and environmental testing These tests are available to determine your product’s integrity, but they are also a requirement in many standards approvals. Our environmental testing facilities will help you develop your product to meet IEC60068 and equivalent standards

  9. HALT & hass A stress testing method, HALT Testing subjects products to environmental stresses, accelerating them beyond normal usage expectations. • In this way, any design, engineering or component weaknesses are exposed during the product’s development phase. • Using a process of triaxial vibration combined with thermal shock, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT) has been proven to help companies improve the reliability of products in use, avoiding expensive recalls or returns. • Quite simply, HALT Testing will show you in hours or days, product weakness that may otherwise take months or even years to manifest themselves

  10. High power ITL is only one of a handful of facilities in the southern hemisphere which offers high power testing services, including high voltage From within our separate and isolated control room, we can offer clients a safe, accurate and reliable way to evaluate concepts and prototypes for R & D purposes, or to test finished products which may need to comply with regulations or meet international standards. As an independent high power testing facility, you can be sure of the absolute integrity of the test data and results from ITL. You will also find us flexible and accommodating, so that we can meet your exact testing needs. If you require high power testing of semi-conductors, surge protectors, transformers, circuit breakers or electrical boards etc., our robust facilities and highly experienced team can offer you a comprehensive package of tailored, flexible service.

  11. Materials • Solar and UV Radiation • Our weathering chamber provides accelerated wear under the full spectrum of sunlight. We can determine fading and colour change, loss of strength, brittleness and blistering. Humidity can also be applied in the weathering chamber. • Flammability • Glow wire • Needle flame • Ball pressure • Impact testing • Vibration testing • Shock testing

  12. Safety The laboratory can operate in two ways: Pre Compliance Testing ITL’s early involvement in the product lifecycle is recommended. This way, our experienced team can examine samples or prototypes and advise on whether the product is likely to pass the prescribed safety standard. If necessary we can advise on technical changes to the design, manufacturing or component selection which would enable the product to pass the prescribed safety standard. We will draft a pre-compliance report at this stage, which will help to eliminate the expense and delay caused by failure during compliance type testing. Compliance Testing These products are ready to go straight into the laboratory for type testing to a prescribed electrical safety standard, being either Australian/New Zealand (AS/NZS) or International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) with National Deviations. Upon completion of testing a full test report is made available. ITL can also provide top-up testing to an existing, recognized test report to fully meet the Australian and New Zealand regulatory requirements.

  13. Accreditation IANZ what does this mean to me?

  14. International Accreditation NZ • We have been accredited by IANZ • this means you can be assured we are competent at what we do. This is because IANZ accreditation provides independent, third-party recognition of the technical and scientific competence of professional organisations, such as testing and calibration laboratories, radiology services and inspection bodies. • IANZ accreditation is independent and globally recognised. • IANZ accredited organisations undergo rigorous and regular assessment of all areas of their accredited technical operations, ensuring test and examination results and inspection reports are reliable. Many technical organisations in New Zealand are accredited by IANZ, including more than 600 laboratories, radiology services and inspection bodies which, between them, produce millions of certificates and reports every year. To have confidence your results are right, when you use one of these services look for the IANZ symbol to make sure the organisation is accredited. • Gaining accreditation by IANZ means organisations like us and customers like you have independent assurance of: • Competent, experienced staff • Properly calibrated equipment • Validated testing methods • Internal and external quality control checks • Effective systems and procedures • ITL’s accredited testing is covered under IANZ accreditation number 42.

  15. EMC testing & Standards Development & full compliance

  16. EMC Emissions Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) emission testing covers both conducted and radiated emissions. • Harmonics • Measurements DC to 40th • Fully shielded room • Conducted Emissions • 9kHz to 30MHz • Radiated Absorbing Clamp Emissions • 30MHz to 300MHz • Fully Anechoic room • Magnetic triple loop measurements • Radiated Emissions 30MHz to 18 GHz • Open Air Test Site • Radiated Emissions 30MHz to 2GHz • May 2017 ,accredited testing estimated July 2017

  17. EMC Immunity Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) Immunity testing covers both pulsed and continuous phenomena. Electrostatic discharge Contact to 9kV Air to 16.5kV Electrical fast transients Up to 4.8kV Surges Up to 4.4kV Voltage dips and interruptions 16A /270V ac & dc Power frequency magnetics Harmonics & Inter-harmonic testing Radiated RF Immunity 80MHz to 2.5GHz Conducted Immunity 150KHz to 230MHz

  18. EMC Standards which one to use? EMC standards can be confusing to interpret and a daunting task to determine which standards applies and which ones do not. Do you find yourself asking some of these questions? • Do I test to a generic EMC standard? • What is meant by level of risk? • What about a product family standard or equipment standard? • What's the difference between, CISPR, IEC, EN, ANSI, ISO, FCC etc.? • Is both Emissions and Immunity required for my target market? • Do I need to retest for each country I wish to sell in? ITL can assist you in identifying the appropriate EMC requirements for your target markets, while at the same time minimizing the amount of repetitive testing required for entry into multiple geographies.

  19. EMC development or full compliance? • ITL is happy to work with you to solve any EMC related issues. • We have EMC kits supplied by Wurth Electronics • Near Field Probes • Years of experience in the field which go a long way to solving EMC issues. • ITL has relationships with approval bodies including: • EESS in Melbourne, Australia • SAA Approvals, Queensland Australia • Energy Safety, New Zealand • ITL can assist with completion of approvals applications including: • Full safety compliance + CoS or CoA • Issue accredited EMC reports • To obtain the RCM mark or gain entry to the European market.
