  3. Christianity 1. Jews and the Romans • After Solomon, Israel divides into Israel and Judah • Judah taken over by Rome • Some believe they should fight the Romans, others cling to Jewish tradition

  4. Christianity 2. The Life of Jesus • Prophecies told of a coming messiah • Jesus was born in Bethlehem , grew up in Nazareth, carpenter • Teaching ministry began around AD 30 and lasted 3 years • Performed many documented miracles

  5. Christianity 3. What did Jesus teach? • Relationship was more important than religious laws • Love and forgiveness • Taught through the use of parables • Closely followed by 12 disciples

  6. Christianity 4. Crucifixion • Followers: messiah • Jews: teaching a false message • Romans: threat to law and order • Arrested and charged with treason, sentenced to death • After 3 days, he rose from the dead and spent another 40 days on earth teaching
