  5. Deductive Reasoning • Starts with a given conclusion, it doesn’t have to be figured out. • Ends with the details. Example: • Standard baseball games have 9 innings. • We watched a standard baseball game. • That game had 9 innings.

  6. BUT in Deductive Reasoning • The conclusion can be the main claim or point of an argument • the details are called premises and follow the general conclusion.

(What is the generalization?) • Joe missed the registration date. • Joe will not be able to register for the trip. • ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • All people are mortal.
