  1. How to Quote Automatic Door Repair Jobs Automatic door repair requires knowledge of not just framing but you also need to have some experience with electric. As such, the pricing for your work should be a bit higher than that of repairing a manual door. Additionally, as the vast majority of your clients will be commercial enterprises, it is important to price your work in a way that will persuade your client to use you again when another repair is needed. As there are less commercial clients than residential, it is important to keep your clients happy. You should always charge at least a travel fee for any automatic door repair job. This fee should cover the cost it takes you to travel to and from the job, AKA your gas and mileage. Sometimes an automatic door repair job will just be a quick fix and sometimes the repair can be large such as broken glass or a completely inoperable door due to some parts failure. Make sure you quote the job accordingly. Generally, you should add 80-90% on top of material cost for your automatic door repair quotes. This should cover your labor cost for the job. Add your labor cost and material cost to your gas and mileage minimum to get your total quote. Try to keep the pricing between a small fix a large fix within an acceptable range. This will help you build a great rapport with your client and may even drive some referrals. This can be hard to do with large problems such as broken glass since the material cost will be higher. But remember, with commercial clients your goal is to gain and maintain repeat customers. Always be upfront and manage your client's expectations so there is no sticker shock with your quotes. If you decide to subcontract your automatic door repair job, remember you are trying to keep the client as a repeat customer. Add only 20% on top of your subcontractors cost. Remember that subcontracting has additional risks. Make sure your subcontractor is able to deliver the same level of quality that you would be able to perform. Of course you should never price yourself out of the market. You never want to be too high or even too low in your automatic door repair quotes. If at all possible, find out what your competitors are charging for the same type of jobs. Remember to do this in an ethical way. This is the best way to adjust your quotes and to remain competitive within your market. Maintain a reputation of quality work so even if you are not the cheapest in the market, your clients will continue to call on you whenever their automatic doors need repair.
