  27. Growth Mind Set Buzz Dome Edge Give & Get Basics

  28. Fixed Mindset v Growth Mindset FIXED Mindset Intelligence is a FIXED trait. GROWTH Mindset Intelligence can be developed

  29. Dweck’s findings: Two Mindsets • Fixed mindset: • Intelligence and talent -fixed • Innate talent creates success • Effort will not make a difference • You either get it or you don’t • Growth mindset: • Intelligence can be developed • Brains and talent are just the starting point • Enjoy effort and process of learning • You can always grow and learn

  30. Mindset Indicators Growth Mindset • “I can be better at that.” • “I want to learn how…” • “I’m not giving up.” Fixed Mindset 1. “I’m not good at that.” 2. “That’s too hard for me.” 3. “I don’t want to look daft.”

  31. …YET

  32. The Power of Praise • People are very sensitive to the messages they receive about themselves. • The way we interact with young people can foster either a growth or a fixed mindset. • Praise for effort v. praise for ability.

  33. FOOD FOR THOUGHT… • As a parent, do I praise effort or ability?

  34. “Jackson’s a natural with language and maths…” “Phoebe’s great at art and craft.”

  35. “I’m not good at climbing; I’m not good at sports…”

  36. MY EXPERIENCE “You said I could do cartwheels if I just kept trying…”
