  4. UPDATE • Project Goal: To build more coherence in Algebra 1 (Algebra A & Algebra B) across grades 7-12 by focusing on patterns and families of functions. • Linear • Absolute Value • Exponential • Quadratic • Radical • Rational

  5. Where are we at… • Function Posters have been distributed to all 7-12 math classrooms – Are they visible? • Discussions about the importance of making “tables” vertically and horizontally • We have looked at a variety of higher level thinking Algebra 1 tasks and selected four to discuss today • Established a list of leading questions to use as you facilitate the tasks in your classroom

  6. What we are doing today… • Look at the tasks from the perspective of a teacher/student. • Share and discuss your thoughts after completing tasks. • Where can we incorporate these tasks into our current pacing guide?

  7. Plans for the remainder of the school year… • Math meetings will focus on the discussion of student work from the tasks and use results to improve student learning and classroom instruction • Build a digital TASK TOOLKIT on the P:drive for each of the Families of Functions.

  8. Plans for the remainder of the school year… • Encourage teachers to share other TASKS they have found to be successful with students (feel free to place them on the P:drive) • Provide you with a folder to place copies of Algebra 1 tasks to utilize in teaching the families of functions

  9. NCTM Webinars • JPS has an NCTM membership • Is anyone interested in attending a JPS math webinar on Algebra 1 topics?
