It introduced Count Dracula, and established many conventions of subsequent vampire fantasy. The novel tells the story of Dracula's attempt to move from Transylvania to England so that he may find new blood and spread the undead curse. The novel has spawned numerous theatrical, film, and television interpretations. Find it in the Classics section under STO. If you enjoy Science Fiction and/or Horror why not try…. Frankenstein - by Mary Shelley This is a story about Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist who creates a grotesque creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment. It is one of the first examples of science fiction, It has had a considerable influence in literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories, films and plays. Find it in the Classics section under SHE. If you enjoy Science Fiction why not try…. 1984 - by George Orwell Written after the end of WWII, 1984 describes the future where thoughts and actions are monitored and controlled at all times. It includes deception, secret surveillance, brazenly misleading terminology and manipulation of recorded history by an authoritarian state. Many of its terms and concepts, such as Big Brother,Newspeak, Room 101, 2 + 2 = 5, and memory hole, have entered into common usage since its publication. Find it in the Classics section under ORW. If you enjoy Science Fiction why not try…. The Invisible Man - by H.G. Wells • Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde • - Robert Louis Stevenson The Invisible Man is a cautionary tale of how science and technology can get out of control and do more harm than good. This masterpiece of science fiction is the fascinating story of Griffin, a scientist who creates a serum to render himself invisible, and his descent into madness that follows. Find it in the Classics section under WEL. Dr Jekyll is a kind, well-respected and intelligent scientist who meddles with the darker side of science, as he wants to bring out his 'second' nature. He does this through transforming himself into Mr Hyde - his evil alter ego who doesn't repent or accept responsibility for his evil crimes and ways. Find it in the Classics section under STE.
