  4. SABER -to know VS CONOCER –to know PRETERITE VERB ENDINGS Both SABER and CONOCER mean “TO KNOW”. In Spanish, these two verbs are NOTinterchangeable! Just like, SER vs ESTAR, they are used in certain instances. -ar endings -er/-ir endings When to use SABER or CONOCER: SABER = IF HACER, IR, and SER are IRREGULAR in the PRETERITE ser - ir - hacer - CONOCER = A T You try: Yesterday, I ate a jalapeño. Reflexive Verbs Chant They’re all about you or all about me When we act upon ourselves - that’s reflexive! They end in “se” like ducharse - to shower or cepillarse – to brush .That’s your clue that They’re reflexive. Move the “se” to the front and conjugate the verb. Change the “se” to “me”, “te”, “se”, “nos”, “os”, or “se” For example, I shower- “yo me ducho” I’m doing it to myself. Yeah! That’s reflexive! You brush your teeth -“tútecepillas los dientes” You’re doing it to yourself. Yeah! That’s reflexive! They’re all about him or all about us. When we act upon ourselves- that’s reflexive! They end in “se” like afeitarse – to shave or despertarse– to wake up. That’s your clue that They’re reflexive. Move the “se” to the front and conjugate the verb. Change the “se” to “me”, “te”, “se”, “nos”, “os”, or “se” For example, he shaves - “él se afeita” He’s doing it to himself.Yeah! That’s reflexive!
