  4. Remedial The dictionary meaning is “tending or intended to rectify or improve” • Remedial groups Remedial groups focus on restoration to normalcy after a point of breakdown. (Gitterman, 2004 ) The group provides a means by which an individual’s problems can be assessed and addressed. (Reid 1981)

  5. Recreational • Dictionary meaning • Refreshment of one's mind or body after work through activity that amuses.

  6. Preventive • “To prevent” literally means “to keep something from happening” • The term “prevention” is reserved for those interventions that occur before the initial onset of disorder.

  7. Good examples of preventive work are a juvenile guidance centre group or a prenatal or pre-discharge group in a hospital.

  8. Developmental Dictionary meaning Concerned with the development of someone or something. • the primary concern of developmental research is how we become what we are.

  9. The term developmental can be understood to have two connotations: • enhancing maturational tasks in the human life cycle with groups of children, teenagers and adults; and • a partnership with the nation in its developmental programmes and social progress such as adult education or health.
