  2. Introduction Food Banks- Is poverty the biggest barrier in healthy eating in Toronto? No, because there are many other reasons why Torontonians are eating unhealthy. Some can't afford the high prices at groceries stores for fruits and veggies and for example, a burger at McDonalds are only $1.39. They don’t have the availability to plant there own food. Also food banks don’t provide healthy choices but, just packaged goods. Food banks also increased about 12% in the past year, which means they need more food to feed families and packaged is fast and wont go bad very quick. No, because food banks do provide food to people who cant afford some food, and even a little bit of amount of food is a difference.

  3. Cons Cons: Food banks provide unhealthy choices the hours when they're open is a problem don’t provide enough food for certain families can cause heath conditions

  4. Cons- First Fact • Food banks don’t provide the most healthiest food for people. for example they provide only packaged food. Such as; pasta, canned beans, cereal etc. what they don’t know that 50% of households consist of families with children. If kids don’t have the right nutrients it can cause long term effects on them. 38% are children and babies.

  5. Con- Second Fact • The hours a food bank is open is a issue to some families and people because they are open from 9:30 to 4:30. as for most people they work during the day and don’t have the time to go during the day.

  6. Con- Third Fact • They don’t provide enough food for families. For example they give about 3 - 4 days worth of food in a 14 day period. Most parents need to provide with a family with teenagers and they need more food.

  7. Con – Fourth Fact • If people or kids don’t get the right nutrients they can over time get diseases. Such as; hear disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, and cancer.

  8. Pros • Provide some food for families and people who cant afford any • They run food drives to provide more food • Volunteers to provide fresh cooked meals • They are open to everyone

  9. Pro- First Fact • They provide food to help families that can afford it because of rent, mortgage payments. employment etc. So even a little bit of extra food can make a big difference.

  10. Pro- Second Fact • They run many food drives during the year to gather more food. They get donations from many schools and companies.

  11. Pro- Third Fact • People volunteer to help cook fresh meals for people who don’t have enough food, because one meal is better then nothing. 150,000 come and eat.

  12. Pro- Fourth Fact • Food banks are for everyone and anyone. Such as ; 882,000 people are helped and 38% are children.
