Translating Services BT NGT Lite Update version of BT’s text relay phone service which uses the internet to translate information instead of dialling an access number - type your message and have it translated into speech and vice versa Dragon Dictation Dictation app translates speech into text in 31 different languages (not between languages) It can be used to send emails and texts as well as updates on Twitter and Facebook. Interpreter Now Ltd BSL interpreting service for communicating between BSL and no-BSL users through video relay. BSL user signs their message and the interpreter translates this message into speech for the non-BSL user and vice versa. Free download but call will be charged based on your service provider (free of charge through some participating organisations)

Accessing Services Food orders/deliveries Deliveroo, Just Eat, Uber Eats now provide an easy and simple way to order a take away without having to speak to someone on the phone from restaurants who don’t have their own delivery service. Uber Free app to order private minicabs - get a quote and order minicab without having to speak to anyone over the phone. Automatically finds your location or alternatively you can type in a location yourself if it’s from a different location to where you are and you type in your destination. All payments are done through a registered card on the app and therefore there is no confusion about payment through difficulties with being able to hear the driver. The popularity of apps and easy access to services, entertainment and healthcare is a growing trend

AI and the Future • AI aims to simulate human intelligence to solve a problem • Machine learning (subfield of AI), copies the learning patterns of humans to learn - trial and error to create best outcome • Machine learning can use large amounts of data to create an ideal outcome - Speech in noise in CIs - Telephones • AI with subtitling – lip reading
