  7. The Frog Prince Once upon a time, there lived a king who had a very beautiful daughter. One day, the young princess was playing with her favorite golden ball. When she threw a ball high up into the air, it rolled into the pool and disappeared beneath the water. The princess began to cry. “Come back, golden ball,” sobbed the princess, staring into the water. Suddenly a big green frog stretched his head out of the water and jumped onto the grass beside her. “Don’t cry, beautiful princess,” croaked the frog, “It’ll be my pleasure to dive down and get it for you if you kiss me and marry me.” So eager was the princess to see her golden ball once more that she didn’t listen to the frog carefully. “I’ll promise you anything if you bring back my ball.” said she.

  8. The frog jumped into the pool quickly then returned with the ball in his mouth. Later, when the princess was sitting in the palace, there was a knock at the door. “My princess, have you forgotten your promise?” asked the frog. “What does a frog want you to do?” asked the king, looking rather surprised. The princess told him the whole story. The king said, “You must keep your promise, my daughter.” The kind princess knew she must obey her promise, so she kissed the frog and then fell asleep. When she woke up the next morning, she saw a handsome prince sitting beside her. “Many years ago, a spell had been cast on me by an evil witch and only you, the princess, had the power to break it. Thank you very much, my dear.”explained the handsome prince. The kind princess married the handsome prince and they lived happily ever after.

  11. Notes • 1. Once upon a time there lived a king who had a very beautiful daughter. • (1)There lived… There seems to be…, There happened to be …, There used to be …等。如: There used to be a temple here. • There happened to be an old friend of mine in the shop. • 2. So eager was the Princess to see her golden ball once more that she didn`t listen too carefully to what the frog had said. 如: • Gone are the days when we spent together last summer in Paris. • Such is J.K. Rowing. • (2)so…that… • The story is so interesting that all of us laugh from ear to ear.

  12. Notes • 3. …a spell had been cast on me by an evil witch and only the • Princess had the power to break it. • 4. …the handsome prince and the Princess were married, and lived happily ever after. • (1)marry结婚,娶,嫁 如: • John is going to marry Jane. • Tom and Alice are going to get married.
