  2. What were the Negro Leagues? • Baseball league for African-Americans from 1880’s-1952. • Many different leagues • Struck hard by Depression • Notable players: Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Satchel Paige

  6. How were they created? • Steel mill workers formed Grays, were a sandlot team • Owned by Cumberland Posey • Crawfords were formed by Gus Greenlee, future HOF Gus Greenlee Cumberland Posey

  7. Where were they located? • Homestead, borough 7 miles SE of downtown • Home games in Forbes Field and Griffith Stadium, D.C. • Hill District, group of neighborhoods • Home games in Greenlee Field Forbes Field Griffith Stadium Greenlee Field
