  2. Answer the following questions using chapter 12. Be Thorough! (4-6 sentence) These are due on Wednesday the 21st! • 1. Historians argue that Andrew Jackson was a strong leader. Give three examples from the text that prove that statement. In other words, give evidence of him being a strong leader. • 2. Why did Andrew Jackson go down in history as the “Common Man’s” president? (Give multiple reasons.) • 3. By what characteristics did Andrew Jackson change the way government was thought of and operated? (Think in terms of Jacksonian Democracy) • 4. Andrew Jackson had some questionable policies by today’s standards. Give one example of where you could argue that he made the wrong decision as our nation’s leader. (Be detailed) • 5. During his presidency, states in the South challenged the unity of the country by protesting what government policy? What side did Jackson take?

  3. 6. How did a new political party come about as a result of citizens protesting against Andrew Jackson’s policies? • 7. Describe how Jackson’s policies toward Native Americans showed he had a personal bias against them. • 8. Explain why Andrew Jackson felt “cheated” out of the presidency when he ran in 1824. • 9. What, in your opinion, is the most lasting effect of Andrew Jackson’s presidency? Is there anything from him that has lasted until our present times? Explain your answer with evidence. • You will have class-time for the rest of today and all of the class period on Tuesday to work on these questions. I am wanting to see you use the time to reflect back on what you were studying at the close of last year as it is a building block for our future discussions and assignments. Remember to be thorough on your work. You will be asked to share one of your answers on Wednesday during class and then hand in the assignment. If you finish before it is due on Wednesday, make sure you like what you have written and then you may begin previewing the next chapter which we will begin on Monday of next week.
