  1. Maths Mastery Read, Write, Order and Compare Numbers up to 10 000 000

  2. Read Work with a partner: One partner writes down a seven-digit number. The other reads the number. If they read it correctly, they write a number for the first partner. Include some zeros to challenge.

  3. Write Work with a partner: One partner writes down a hidden seven-digit number and reads it for the other. The other partner writes the digits down. Check the numbers match. If they are the same, swap roles. If incorrect, check it has been read correctly.

  4. Order Explain how to order the following numbers from smallest to largest: 1 010 011 1 100 010 1 101 001 1 001 100 1 001 010 1 101 011 110 110 • 110 110 is the smallest as it is the only number with 6 digits. The rest have 7 digits. • 1 001 010 and 1 001 100 are the next smallest numbers. They both have the same total number of thousands, but the former is smaller as the last three digits are 010 and the latter is 100. • The next number is 1 010 011 as it has no hundred thousands. • The largest three numbers are 1 100 010, 1 101 001, 1 101 011. All have ones in the millions and hundred thousands. The first of these is the smallest as is has no thousands, but the others do. The third one is the largest as all the digits are the same as the second one except is has a ten and the middle one has no tens. Show Answers Hide Answers

  5. Compare Work with a partner: Choose seven digit cards each. Both partners write and hide a seven-digit number using the seven digits. Toss a coin – heads is higher, tails lower. Compare the numbers – who has the higher or lower number? Remember to keep the score. Is it better to make the highest or lowest number possible with the digits or a number nearer the middle of the possibilities?

  6. Value Here is a 7-digit number: 7 654 321 Write down the numbers that are: ten thousand more one hundred less one million less a thousand more three hundred thousand more Eight more Forty less With a calculation, how can you reverse the last: three digits four digits five digits six digits seven digits 7 664 321 7 654 221 6 654 321 7 655 321 7 954 321 7 654 329 7 654 281 - 198 - 3087 - 41 976 - 530 865 - 6 419 754 Show Answers Hide Answers
