Characters and Emotions in Games

This project aims to investigate the emotional impact of characters in games and explore how storytelling can advance the medium. Through brainstorming, reading, and categorizing, we will document our findings on a message board. The project will focus on psychological, educational, traditional media, game design, philosophical, improvisational, dramatic, and social/cultural angles. We will limit our scope to 3D, story/world-based games in genres such as RPG and FPS. To proceed, we will refine our thesis, conduct research, interview designers, establish dialogue with developers, and develop vocabulary. Our granular goals include writing a comprehensive paper, creating a synopsis, website/forum, and presentation, and seeking publication. Additionally, we aim to lay the groundwork for future research and practical applications. We seek feedback on our approach, any relevant resources or contacts, and other angles to consider.
