COMPULSORY SECONDARY EDUCATION IES Joaquín Bau • 4 years (12-16) • If students finish CSE they obtain a Graduate certificate in Secondary Education • A student has three options: - Middle Level Formative Cycles • Baccalaureate • The job market • If they do not finish CSE: • The job market • Social Guarantee Programmes

SOCIAL GUARANTEE PROGRAMMES IES Joaquín Bau • They have the purpose of giving a basic and professional training which allows young people who failed the CSE to enter the labour world • AIM: That the student will be able to carry out labour activities of limited complexity. An important part of this training is the work experience in work centres • DURATION: From 650 to 900 hours • TYPES: • Social Guarantee Programmes by local administrations • Work Transition Plans • School Workshops and Apprenticeships • Work Training Courses

TYPES (1) IES Joaquín Bau SOCIAL GUARANTEE PROGRAMMES BY LOCAL ADMINISTRATIONS They are planned as apprenticeship courses: electricity, cooking, gardening, mechanical, etc • DURATION: 1 year (from September to June) • WORK TRANSITION PLANS • The aim is to provide students with personal and professional resources which are necessary in order to find a job • - DURATION: 900 hours (700 theoretical-practical and 200 hours of practice in an enterprise of the sector

TYPES (2) IES Joaquín Bau SCHOOL WORKSHOPS AND APPRENTICESHIPS They offer the practical apprenticeships to learn a trade and the acquisition of professional experience. - DURATION: 18 months (Workshops) and 6 months (apprenticeships) WORK TRAINING COURSES The aim is to complement the academic formation or the previous work experience, so that the student is prepared for his labour insertion

MIDDLE LEVEL FORMATIVE CYCLES IES Joaquín Bau • The aim is to provide a specific personalized formation which relates to professional practice • AIM: To allow young people to join the work market and have a certain profession • DURATION: From 1300 to 2000 hours • The MLFCs are structured into units of competence. Each unit of competence is the necessaryknowledge to carry out a task correctly • All MLFCs include a company training module AND AFTER THE MLFC... you can enter: Baccalaureate Another MLFC The job market

HIGHER LEVEL FORMATIVE CYCLES IES Joaquín Bau • The aim is to provide a specific personalized formation which relates to professional practice • AIM: To allow young people to join the work market and have a certain profession with appropriate qualifications • DURATION: From 1300 to 2000 hours • The HLFCs are structured into units of competence. Each unit of competence is the necessary knowledge to carry out a task correctly. They are organised in individual sets. • All HLFCs include a company training module AND AFTER THE HLFC... you can enter: University The job market

BACCALAUREATE IES Joaquín Bau • Baccalaureate is a multi-purpose course • AIM: To provide the basic qualifications required to gain access to job-oriented education by means of either Higher Level Formative Cycles or university studies • DURATION: Two years (60 credits) • Baccalaureate studies consist of three different types of subjects: general, speciality and optional, plus a research work project and tutor sessions AND AFTER THE BACCALAUREATE ... you can enter: University studies, after successfully completing their university entrance tests (PAU) Higher Level Formative Cycles The job market

UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (1) IES Joaquín Bau • After Baccalaureate students who wish to gain access to university need to take their university entrance examinations based on their Baccalaureate curriculum, which consists of seven tests: • The first four test students on their knowledge of general subjects. • Catalan Language and Literature • Spanish Language and Literature • Foreign Language • History or Philosophy

  11. UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (2) IES Joaquín Bau • The other three test students on certain speciality subjects. Each speciality is linked to specific university studies or degrees Science – Technology (Mathematics and Physics) Health Science (Biology and Chemistry) Humanities (Latin and Art History) Social Science (Social Science Maths and Geography) Art (Artistic Skills and Art History)
