  3. The role of expatriate training • According to Tung’s study, the percentage of MNCs providing expatriate training is as follows: • American MNCs: 32% • European MNCs: 69% • Japanese MNCs: 57%

  4. According to GMAC Survey figures, the availability of CCT in MNCs was as follows (in 2004) : • Employee and spouse: 27% • The whole family: 28% • For employee only: 5% • For none: 40%

  5. Components of effective pre-departure training programs Cultural Awareness Programs: Training on culture-related issues depends on: 1. Expected interaction between the employee and the members of host culture 2. Degree of similarity between the individual’s culture and that of the host country

  6. The program should focus on: • Life-long learning • Foreign Language Training • Emphasis not just on being bilingual but also on being bi-cultural • Helping managers manage diversity
