  1. Is forgiveness for real? How Is This Possible?

  2. Sin is a terrible weight to carry Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, Luke 5:8 But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

  3. Guilt is powerful Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”  Acts 7:54 Now when they heard these things they were enraged, (“pierced” NASV) and they ground their teeth at him.

  4. Perfection is an “ideal” 1 John 1:8, 10 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

  5. Perfection is an “ideal” Romans 3: 10, 23 …as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one…  …for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

  6. Satan plays to our weak side 2 Corinthians 10:12 Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding. • He appeals to pride/pleasure • He adds discouragement when we fail • We make it worse when we misjudge others

  7. What can we do with our sin? 1 John 1:7-9 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. … If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  • Resolve never to sin again

  8. What can we do with our sin? 1 John 2:1-2 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.  • Resolve never to sin again

  9. What can we do with our sin? James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.  • Resolve never to sin again

  10. What can we do with our sin? Matthew 27:3-5 Then when Judas, his betrayer, saw that Jesus was condemned, he changed his mind and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” They said, “What is that to us? See to it yourself.” 5 And throwing down the pieces of silver into the temple, he departed, and he went and hanged himself.    • Resolve never to sin again • Let sin make us into cowards

  11. What can we do with our sin? Matthew 26:69-75 Denying he knew the man Jesus John 21:15-17 Less than two weeks later- confessing Acts 2 50 days later- boldly preaching • Resolve never to sin again • Let sin make us into cowards • Learn from our sin – like Peter 1 Peter 1:3-4  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,

  12. How is this possible? Hebrews 7:25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. 1 John 2:2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. God is able to save completely, to the uttermost. No one is out of his reach.

  13. What about sins and shortcomings we don’t see? 2 Peter 3:18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. God knows you are in a growth process

  14. What about sins and shortcomings we don’t see? 2 Corinthians 8:12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. We are accountable for where we are

  15. What about sins and shortcomings we don’t see? Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, Ultimately we are saved by grace through faith

  16. Some feel they can just never win with the Father John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? But, Jesus represent the Father

  17. Some feel they can just never win with the Father Luke 1:68-69, 74-75 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he has visited and redeemed his people, 69 and has raised up a horn of salvation for us… that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. The Fathers desire is rescue, and service without fear

  18. Heaven is not unattainable • It is not the destination of the super-Christian • It is the destination of those forgiven, lifted by grace Where are YOU, in relation to this grace?
