  1. Mrs. Klimes’ Newsletter Café Strategy (We will be teaching various reading strategies through out kindergarten. They are part of the Café structures which stands for: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Extended Vocabulary. ) This week we learned three ways we read: read the pictures, read the words, retell the story. Please see the handout on retelling in your child’s folder. Teacher Info: Phone #: 630-493-8179 Email: cklimes@lisle202.org Office #: 630-493-8102 September 6, 2013 • Weekly Sight Words We instruct 95 sight words by the end of kindergarten! You received a list in your Open House Packet. You can also access words on my webpage. Instruction begins in a few weeks. I Can Reading: I can rcognize letters and sounds for s, a, t, i, p, n. Writing:I can form the letters s,a,t,i, p,n. Math:I can subitize! I can count with 1:1 correspondence (careful counting). These are our I Can statements! It will tell you some of the things we are working on in reading, writing, and math related to the Common Core State Standards. Kindergarten Connections (below are things you can do at home to help your child) • In computer class this week, students accessed the site by themselves! They worked on using a mouse and opening and closing windows. Please help your child use the mouse and practice how to double click, make windows larger, and “X” out of a program. If you have access to the internet, supervise and support your child on pbskids.org. Important Info Picture Day is Thursday, September 12th Kindergarten Open House: Please check out the Power Point link on my webpage if you were unable to attend our Open House. REMINDERS: • Environmental Print Homework Due: Monday, September 9th • Star of the Week Posters due Friday, Sept. 13 • Please be sure to read the contents in your child’s folder every night. PLEASE EMPTY THE FOLDERS. • Please be sure your child has his/her SOUND BOOK EVERY DAY! Books We Are Reading Look here for books we are reading in class so you can check out similar stories from the Lisle Library! Re-reading favorite books is a great way to have your child practice the skill of retelling. (see handout in your child’s folder for more information on retelling). This week we read several books that did not have words: “The Lion and the Mouse,” “Chalk,” and “Zoom!” We also read, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.” .
