  3. Ghettos and Train ride • “80 persons per cattle wagon” • “All we had is was a bucket of water for 80 people” • “Someone was screaming fire everywhere all through out the night.”

  4. Birkenau • “Men to the right and women to the left” • “I never thought this was the last time I would see my mother, sister, and grandmother” • “I was getting closer to the open pit, should I kill myself on the wire”

  5. Auschwitz • “When we arrived in Auschwitz we could smell burning flesh.” • “The beloved objects that we had carried with us from place to place, were gone.” • “You are in a concentration camp. In Auschwitz….”

  6. Buna • “ I became A-7713” From then on. • “ Me, I’m not hungry” • “The iron gates closed behind us.”

  7. March to Gleiwitz and camp stay • “ Left, right, Left, right” • “ I’m afraid they might be crushing my violin” “I like to give charity.”

  8. Train ride to Buchenwald/camp life liberation by American forces. • “An old man manages to grab a piece, but Eliezer watches as he is attacked and beaten to death by his own son.” • “On April 5, with the American army approaching, the Nazis decide to annihilate all the Jews left in the camp. Daily, thousands of Jews are murdered.” • “On April 11, the American army arrives at Buchenwald. Now free, the prisoners think only of feeding themselves.”
