  2. Introduction • The Metropolitan Museum of Art is working on an upcoming exhibit for the fall and is looking for artists to put a new spin on the famous art movements of the past.

  3. Calling all ARTISTS: Your challenge is to research the works and artistic style of one of the great Master’s and make it your own through the creation of a new art piece to be exhibited in the MET show. Along with the display of your artwork will be a brief report covering details about your artist’s life and their inspirations.

  4. Task: In groups of 3 or 4 choose an artist from the following list and search through the provided sources to find background information about their lives and contributions to the world of art. Click on the names to view information about the individuals and also search using the resources page to find out more about each artist: Pablo PicassoGeorgia O’Keefe Vincent Van GoghHenri Matisse Jackson PollockClaude Monet

  5. Process: The Written Report WITHIN YOUR WRITTEN REPORT INCLUDE : • A brief biography of your artist (one page): (Date of Birth, Where they lived, any childhood information that impacted their art, education, etc.) • Characteristics of their artistic style and process (two to three pages): What art movements were they a part of? What types of materials did they use? What was their subject? (landscapes, portraits, abstract, etc.) What is unique about how they created their work? Where did they get their inspiration?

  6. Process: Creating the Artwork • Using the research information gathered about your artist’s style and focus, create your own personal art piece that represents their working process. Materials and subject should be similar to what your artist would have used.
