  2. Number Counts • Number = singular or plural • All nouns can be singular or plural • All verbs can be singular or plural • Singular noun subjects must have singular verbs, just like in English • Plural subjects must have plural verbs, too

  3. Nouns ***2nd declension –um nouns have a plural ending in “-a.” They are the same in nominative and accusative.

  4. Verbs • We will stick with third person for now, which means that • Plural verbs end in –nt. • They do *not* have an –s n the end in English. • Portat = (he) carries, but • Portant = (they) carry • Sneak preview: • First person plural = we, and has the ending –mus • Second person plural = you, and has the ending –tis • Portamus = we carry; portatis = you (pl) carry
