  1. WELCOME! To the most important class Physical Education Ms. Singh

  2. About Me I grew up here in Redondo Beach. Attended RBUSD schools. Bachelors degree from UCSD. Teaching credential CSUN. Began coaching and working with kids when I was 19. Taught elementary school at Birney for 6 years. Many positive experiences and lessons learned from involvement in athletics that I’m excited to share with your kids.

The Most Important Class Those who think they have no time for exercise, will eventually have to make time for ILLNESS. -Edward Stanley Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong. -JFK You don’t stop playing because you grow old, you grow old because you stop playing. -Unknown

SocialContracts • An agreement of behavior devised by the class. • The process involves answering four questions. • How do you want to be treated by your teacher? • How do you want to be treated by your classmates? • How do you think the teacher wants to be treated by you? • How will we treat each other during a conflict/disagreement? • The hope is that the students realize that as humans we want the same treatment from one another. Respect, kindness, encouragement, support, etc. We are all more alike than we are different.

  7. Schedule STUDENTS DRESS IN LOCKER ROOM AND HEAD TO ROLL NUMBERS. MONDAY (STACK)- QUICK AND FUN TAG GAMES TUES./WED. –YELLOW FIELD & BLACKTOP/ FITNESS CENTER THURS./FRI- SIDE COURTS & RED FIELD/ GYM

  8. What your child will learn: • Components of fitness • Movement concepts • Motor skills • Game strategy • Team work • Sportsmanship • Creativity • Cooperation • Perseverance

How they will learn: • Non traditional sports (Angle Ball, Omnikin Ball, Team Handball, Tchoukball, Ultimate Frisbee/Chicken) • Traditional Sports (Basketball, Tennis, Soccer, Flag Football) • Cooperative games/activities • Large group invasion games • Variety of tag games • Relays • Dance • Fun fitness activities • Stilts, Ripsticks, unicycles • Using heart rate monitors

  10. Grading Daily points comprised of three main components: Effort, Attitude, Uniform Occasional assessments/assignments will have nominal point value and be separate from daily points. Make up and medical excuse assignments for excused absences or those unable to participate due to illness/injury.
