  1. 4-H Day at the CapitolWednesday, March 19 Scheduling Legislative Visits Informational Webinar Jan. 22, 9 to 10:30 a.m. repeated Jan. 30, 1:30 to 3 p.m.

  2. 4-H Day at the Capitol Event overview -- • Legislative Breakfast – 8:30 to 10 a.m. • Displays in the rotunda -- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. • Rotunda Rally – 12 noon to 12:30 p.m. • Visits – 12:45 to 4:15 p.m.

  3. Delegate Agenda • 9:30 – Registration at the Concourse • 10 a.m. – Kick-off speakers • Preparation for songs and rally • Training and practice for visits • Lunch served during training starting at 11 a.m. • 11:45 a.m. – walk to the Capitol • 12-12:30 p.m.– Rotunda Rally and Group Photo! • 12:45 to 4:15 p.m. – Legislative Visits (some buses may leave at 3 p.m.)

Transportation Tentative bus routes and stops • Eau Claire* - 6:30 am estimated departure • Wausau* - 7 am estimated departure Wausau route - possible Westfield stop • Green Bay* - 6:30 am estimated departure Green Bay route - possible Fond du Lac stop • Sheboygan - 6:45 am estimated departure Sheboygan route - possible Milwaukee stop • Kenosha/Racine - 7 am estimated departure Kenosha/Racine route - possible Waukesha stop • Janesville - 8:30 am estimated departure • Platteville - 7:45 am estimated departure Platteville route - possible Dodgeville stop • La Crosse - 6:45 am estimated departure La Crosse route - possible Tomah stop Travel to the bus pickup point is the responsibility of delegates and/or county travel budgets. Bus, hotel (for those eligible), and meals in Madison will be covered by UW-Extension. Option to be drive yourselves but expenses will not be reimbursed by UW-Extension.

  5. Lodging Hotel accommodations on Tuesday, March 18 will be provided for those travelling over one hour to bus stops in Eau Claire, Wausau or Green Bay. If you have questions or an unusual situation regarding transportation or lodging, please contact Terry Boehner at terry.boehner@ces.uwex.edu or 608-262-1223.

  7. Putting together your delegation • 4-H Youth • Older youth • Representatives of diverse program experiences • Younger members could have a role • 4-H Volunteers • Other supporters and elected officials Share: Who are you planning to bring?

Youth leadership roles • Facilitators during practice time • Greeters • Staff for tables in the rotunda • Song leaders • … YLC and ALC members and others have started to volunteer for some of these roles. If you have delegates with these skills (calling all Superior Days, FLAG, and WACEC veterans), please contact Matt Calvert at matthew.calvert@ces.uwex.edu or 608-262-1912.

Important dates • Feb. 10-March 10 -- contact legislators to schedule visits • Feb. 10 to March 14 –enter visit information into the online database at: https://www.uwex.edu/ces/apps/admin/wigov/4hvisits/ • Feb 14 – Deadline for registering delegations at https://uwex.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eqYskWqoeLyncZD • Feb. 24 to March 7 –send a confirmation letter or email. A template letter is available at: http://blogs.ces.uwex.edu/4hcentennial/calendar/wisconsin-4-h-day-at-the-capitol/ • March 19– visit the Capitol • Note: your group can get a picture taken with your legislators • March 20-28 –send a thank you note to legislators.   11. Finding your legislators • Visit the Government Relations Website at http://www.uwex.uwc.edu/government/ • Follow the “How to find my legislator” link to get office contact information for your legislators.

  12. Calling legislative offices • Introduce yourself • Ask for the legislative scheduler • Tell them about: • 4-H and UW-Extension • The 4-H centennial • 4-H Day at the Capitol • Visiting every legislator in the Capitol the afternoon of Wednesday, March 19 • Bringing delegates – Youth, volunteers, etc. We would like to meet with the legislator between 12:45 and 4:15 p.m. – for half hour visits • Expect to have more than 300 visitors to thank legislators for their support

  13. Let the scheduler know… • Photos will be taken • We invite legislators/staffers to: • Chancellor’s breakfast • Displays in the Rotunda • Rotunda Rally at noon • Legislators/staffers will be invited to events back home

  14. It’s OK if… • You meet with a staffer only • Legislators are in session • Many counties want to meet at the same time • You have to change the meeting location because there are so many delegates
