Vilnius University • Established in 1579 • The oldest university in Baltic states and the largest Lithuanian higher education institution • 12 faculties • More than 3700 researchers • More than 21 000 students • Open Access Scholarly Communication and Information Center – the most modern library in the Baltic countries http://www.vu.lt/en A miniature of Vilnius University at the Mini-Europe park in Brussels

Faculty of Communication • Established in 1991 • 7 departments • Research areas: information management, media, journalism, public communication, library and information science, museology, archival and book science • Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral studies • More than 1200 students • The staff of the Faculty embrace more than 70 researchers http://www.kf.vu.lt/en

Ongoing activities • The Faculty is actively involved in various national and international projects in the field of digital humanities, digitization of cultural heritage, digital libraries and archives, museums, ego-documental heritage, information management, media, etc. • Collaboration with major national information system ARUODAI (http://www.aruodai.lt) – the digital archive for folklore, lituanistics, archaeology, ethnology, history and linguistics data (digitized and born digital material) • First cultural heritage orientated hackathon in Lithuania and first EUROPEANA & DARIAH hackathon

International projects • Partner in NORSLIS (Nordic Research School in Information Studies), HIBOLIRE (The Nordic-Baltic-Russian Network on the History of Books, Libraries and Reading)networks • Partner in European research projectsCALIMERA, PubliCA, Pulman, Cultivate-CEE, DPE • Partner and content provider in EUROPEANA projects CARARE LoCloud, AMBROSIA • A member of DARIAH (Digital Research Infrustructure for the Arts and Humanities) • Associated partner in V-MusT (Virtual Museums Transnational) network and ARIADNE (Advanced Research Infrastructure for Archaeological Dataset Networking in Europe)

  6. VUFC interests in RESAW • Facilitating online access to local data and fostering regional and European cooperation, sharing knowledge, expertise and best practices • Usage of diverse web content in research (scholarly vs non-scholarly content, referencing sources, standartization, methodologies, etc.) • Enhancing research data and value (APIs for researchers, thesaurus, semantic linking, etc.) • Understanding social dimensions in the creation of web material and its use for research (user generated content, crowdsourcing, folksonomies, social networks)
