  3. Our Statistics • Zero CLABSIs in the entire hospital for 28 months! • 90% of all central lines are inserted by the PICC Team

  4. Approximately 300 line days per month • 60-80 CVC devices per month placed • 60-90 CVC devices per month monitored

  5. What We Learned… • Communication is the grease of change • They are watching • Leadership’s commitment is the driver of change

  6. Everyday is a learning experience • This is not an easy process • Keep it simple

  7. Barriers to Success… • We have always… • Flavor of the month • Lack of trust • Lack of knowledge

  8. The territorial and resistant • They come back • Behavior change • Non-clinical people

  9. Overcoming • Failure is not an option • Proving evidence based practice • Education is the key • I am committed • Keep your word

  10. Make it personal • Fix it right • Accountability • Have backup • Hardwire • Reward your staff

  11. Wisdom to Live By • If staff believes in leadership, their resolve becomes hardened to prevent patient harm. • Conviction to not give up when things are hard. It’s the difference between success and lip service.
