An Academic Commons at USD Universities are finding a new role for the library building in increasing student engagement, retention, and success by converting some spaces into a student study, interaction, services, and support center. The USD Academic Commons will feature a collection of services and programs designed to help students achieve their academic goals. Where: First Floor of the I.D. The complex of the Libraries and Muenster University Center will provide a central access point to a variety of campus resources in a one-stop environment that is open hours that are convenient to students. USD Academic Commons • A student-centered environment with a variety of collaborative spaces; students select the space most suited for work on their current project. • Students can work alone or in groups the way they are comfortable with everything they need regardless of residence hall, major, or ethnicity. • Staff and peers will be available both in-person and online during extended hours to assist students with a wide variety of academic questions. Academic & Career Planning Center • Professional Academic Advisors for first 48 credits • Advice on Careers and Focus on Whole Student Development • Employer liaison; Career exploration resources • Tutoring; Supplemental Instruction; FYE • Athletic Advisors/Tutors • Student Support Services (TRIO): U.S. Dept of Education grant-funded program that seeks to improve the retention and graduation rates of students from disadvantaged backgrounds Anne C. Math Emporium (formerly Lab) • Tutor support for students in all Math courses • 600 students in first two Math courses will have 1 classroom session per week and 2 required lab sessions in the Math Emporium • Self-paced exercises and tutorials with video help in My Math Lab software • Swipe I.D. to enter and record attendance Anne C.   12. ITS Help Desk • Information Technologies Help Desk • Support for campus accounts • Hardware and software troubleshooting for personal computers • Equipment lending (laptops, projectors, cameras, camcorders, etc.) • Equipment delivery to classrooms Anne C. Moore

  14. University Writing Center • Students, faculty, and staff meet with trained, writing consultants to discuss their writing and get assistance with developing their writing skills. Anne C. Moore
